What should I expect during my Reiki session

Reiki is a gentle yet profound energy healing experience designed to bring balance and relaxation. Here's an overview of what you might experience during your session with me.

Arrival and Intentions:

We'll begin by discussing your intentions or any particular areas you'd like to focus on during the session. Whether it's stress relief, physical discomfort, or emotional support, this conversation helps guide the healing process.

Getting Comfortable:​

You'll lie fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table, with blankets and supports as needed. I’ll guide you through grounding and earthing visualizations to help you feel present and at ease before we begin.

The Healing Process:

I use a gentle touch or may keep my hands slightly above your body, depending on your comfort. I work along the body's main energy centers (chakras), helping to release blockages, refresh your energy, and promote healing. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a gentle pulsing sensation in certain areas. Some clients feel deeply relaxed and peaceful, while others may experience emotional releases as the energy works through old patterns.

What to Expect During Your Reiki Session: Understanding Sensations and Why It’s Okay to Feel Nothing

Every Reiki session is a unique experience, tailored to what your body, mind, and energy need at that moment. Some people may feel a range of sensations during the session, while others may not feel anything at all—and both are perfectly normal. Here’s a breakdown of what you might experience and why it’s okay to feel nothing at all.

 

Possible Sensations During Reiki:

Reiki can bring about various feelings depending on the energetic shifts happening within your body. Here are some common sensations you might encounter during your session:

  • Feeling Light or Heavy:
    You may feel certain areas of your body becoming lighter, almost weightless, or heavier. These shifts often reflect the movement of energy, especially when blockages are being released or balanced.

  • Warmth, Coolness, or Tingling:
    Many people feel warmth or coolness from my hands or a tingling sensation throughout their body. These feelings are signs of energy flow and how it interacts with your body’s energy field.

  • Seeing Colours:
    With your eyes closed, you might see colours, which can correspond to different chakras. For example, seeing blue may indicate healing in the throat chakra, while green might signify heart chakra balancing.

  • Emotional Release or Images:
    You may experience a wave of emotions—such as sadness, joy, or peace—or even see images, memories, or symbolic visions. These experiences can offer insights or facilitate the healing of unresolved emotional issues.

  • Sensing Extra Hands:
    Some clients report feeling additional hands at work, as though there’s more than just me present. This may be a sign of spiritual support or the energy itself working through your body in ways that go beyond the physical.

 

Why It’s Okay to Feel Nothing:

If you don’t feel any of the sensations listed above, it doesn’t mean that Reiki isn’t working or that something is wrong. Here’s why:

  • Subtle Healing:
    Reiki works deeply on an energetic level, and its effects may be subtle. Even if you don’t feel sensations during the session, you may notice changes afterward, such as improved sleep, reduced stress, or greater emotional clarity.

  • Your Body’s Needs:
    Your body may process energy in ways that aren’t immediately perceptible to your conscious mind. Healing could be happening on a subconscious or energetic level, with results manifesting over time rather than during the session itself.

  • Relaxation is Key:
    One of the most common outcomes of Reiki is deep relaxation. Even if you don’t feel specific sensations, the stillness and peace that Reiki fosters can facilitate profound healing on its own.

 

Healing First, Insights Later:

My primary goal as a Reiki practitioner is to support your healing. While intuitive insights may come through during a session, this isn’t always the case—and that’s perfectly fine. Reiki energy works where it’s needed most, and sometimes that means focusing solely on energetic flow and balance, without specific messages surfacing.

It’s important to manage expectations regarding intuitive information. Although I may pick up on energies during your session, it’s not guaranteed, as the energy will always prioritize what your body needs most.

 

Trust the Process:

Remember, Reiki is always working, even if you don’t feel it right away. The real results of a session can often be seen and felt afterward—in the form of emotional balance, stress relief, better sleep, or even physical improvements.

 

Post-Session Experience:

After your Reiki session, it’s normal to feel relaxed and peaceful. However, other changes may unfold over time. You might notice improved sleep, a sense of emotional clarity, or relief from physical tension or discomfort. The effects of Reiki can continue to integrate over the following days, so be gentle with yourself, stay hydrated, and give your body the space it needs to process the healing.

In some cases, you might experience a temporary intensification of symptoms—known as a healing reaction. This is a positive sign that your body is detoxifying and preparing for deeper healing. If you ever have concerns, feel free to reach out for support.
